How to Do the Window Peeper AI Filter
The Window Peeper trend films one lit window in a dark apartment block at night. Someone sits there alone with a burger, notices the camera, freezes mid-chew, stares it down and pulls the curtain shut. Since 20 October 2026 TikTok has filled with versions, almost all with a celebrity's face. This guide covers where it comes from, every beat, the photo you need, how to make it with your own face or your pet, the do-it-yourself prompt and what goes wrong.
What the Window Peeper trend is
The scene began as an AI concept ad for a burger chain by @karina.aicontent on Instagram on 11 October 2026. Two days later @koffeeshots face-swapped a TV actor into the window. On 20 October @therealrodentspawn posted a CapCut template, "Try this filter yourself", with #windowpeeper (2.6 million plays), and a copy by @capcutfever passed 4.3 million.
The same day @justabulldog put a bulldog in the window, burger in its paws. Pet takes have been part of the trend ever since.
The 14 seconds, beat by beat
It is one continuous shot from across the street. The joke is the stare: it lasts about five seconds, and the curtain only comes after it.
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 0–2.5 s | Night. A dark apartment block with one warm, lit window. The camera pushes in until the window fills the frame |
| 2.5–4.5 s | Someone sits alone at a small table behind the glass, eating a burger, unaware |
| 4.5–9.5 s | They notice the camera, freeze mid-chew and stare straight into the lens, deadpan, cheeks full |
| 9.5–11 s | They put the burger down and stand up, still staring |
| 11–14 s | They pull the curtain across until the window is covered; the curtain stays lit |
A smile, a wave or a quick curtain kills it. The stare has to be long, flat and a little annoyed.
What you need
- One photo: one person, or one pet, face sharp and facing the camera. The stare is a big close-up through the glass.
- Permission: your own photo, a friend who agreed, or your pet. Never a celebrity or a child.
- An image-to-video AI tool: our Window Peeper AI template, or a model such as Seedance 2.0 with the prompt below. No reference video is needed.
Method 1: the template (about 5 minutes)
Open the template and pick a version
Go to the Window Peeper AI video generator and pick You or Pet.
Upload one photo
Face to the camera, sharp and well lit. For a pet, one animal alone with its head and front paws in view.
Generate and post
480p costs 70 credits, 720p costs 110. You get a 14-second 9:16 MP4 with the trend sound; failed videos are refunded automatically. Post it with #windowpeeper and label it as AI-generated.

- The face is the whole joke. Front light, no sunglasses, no hat brim over the eyes.
- Waist up for people. You keep the clothes from the photo; a hoodie or pyjamas sell the late-night burger.
- One subject only. A second face in the photo can end up in the window too.
- For pets, the eyes must be sharp. A photo looking straight at you gives the best stare.
Method 2: make it yourself with an AI video model
Because the scene is one shot with no cuts, a single image-to-video generation can make it. Give the model your photo as a character reference, not as the first frame, or the video starts on your selfie instead of the dark building.
Write the beats with times
Push-in, eating, the stare, standing up, the curtain, each with its seconds as in the table above. 14 seconds, 9:16.
Generate with your photo as the reference
Ask for the person or the pet from the photo, with its exact face, and say not to copy the photo's background.
Add the sound
Generate without music, then lay the trend sound under the whole video from the first frame.
What your prompt has to cover
- One continuous take. Ask for a physical push-in, not a digital zoom, a crop or a cut.
- One lit window. Every other window dark, or the building looks like a hotel.
- The stare before the curtain. No smile, no surprise, no curtain until about 11 seconds.
- Plain packaging. No logos or writing on the bag, the box or the window; models like to add a fast-food brand.
- For pets: paws, not hands. Say the pet holds the burger in its furry front paws and stands on its hind legs to reach the curtain.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- The video starts on your selfie. The photo was used as the first frame. Use it as a reference image instead.
- The curtain closes in two seconds. Give the stare its own five-second window and say the curtain waits.
- The face drifts. Name the face details to keep (eyes, nose, hair, beard, glasses) and say the same face from first to last frame.
- A brand logo on the box. Ask for a plain brown bag and a plain red box with no writing.
- Your pet grows hands. Say furry paws in its own fur, never human hands or fingers.
Label your video as AI-generated where TikTok, Instagram or YouTube ask.
